Meet Anne Gresham, RPh
Anne Gresham is a third generation pharmacist who followed in the footsteps of her father and grandfather. Both were pharmacists and proprietors of pharmacies in Georgia. Anne literally grew up in a drug store, and became interested in pharmacy at a very early age. An animal and horse lover, she enjoyed helping her father compound veterinary medications before there were many commercially available veterinary products. Growing up with pleasure horses, and riding many years for recreation, Anne later trained and competed on the Georgia Saddlebred show circuit.
Following her 1972 graduation from Mercer University’s School of Pharmacy in Atlanta, Anne invented a line of horse health products that included Vita-Hoof Hoof Conditioner, Vita-Derm Medicated Ointment, VIP-20 Medicated Shampoo, Vita-Dine Medicated Shampoo, Vita-Septic Medicated Wound Spray, Man O’War Shampoo, and Secretariat Hair Polish. She developed a love for thoroughbred racing, an interest that led her to move to Paris, Kentucky in 1988. The horse product line was sold to The Farnam Companies in the early 1990’s, and many of the products are still sold today nationwide.
In 1997 Anne took on the challenge of establishing the first retail pharmacy dedicated entirely to equine medicine, located in a leading equine veterinary practice in Lexington, Kentucky. She left there in 2005, and in July of 2006 she established an independent veterinary pharmacy in the University of Kentucky’s Coldstream Research Campus in Lexington. That pharmacy became Rood and Riddle Veterinary Pharmacy when she partnered with Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in January 2007. Throughout her pharmacy career, Anne has worked with veterinarians nationwide to provide effective compounded medications that are well accepted by the horse and convenient for the caregiver to administer. She oversees a support team with extensive equine, canine, and feline experience, and is expanding the compound offering to treat other animals as well.
