Pentoxifylline works to decrease blood viscosity and increase red blood cell flexibility. It can be used in dogs for immune-mediated dermatologic conditions, enhance tissue healing, reduce inflammation in vesicular cutaneous lupus erythematosus, exfoliative cutaneous lupus erythematosus, ear margin seborrhea and necrosis, contact dermatitis, idiopathic sterile nodular panniculitis, sterile nodular pyogranulomatous-granulomatous syndrome, erythema multiforme, interdigital furunculosis, symmetrical onychodystrophy. It can also be used where improved microcirculation is beneficial. In horses, it can be used as an adjunct agent for cutaneous vasculitis, placentitis, atopic dermatitis, endotoxemia, and navicular disease.
