Amikacin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used for infections resulting from gram-negative aerobes and some gram-positive aerobes.

Potential gram-negative aerobes it can be used for include: Escherichia coli, along with most species of Klebsiella spp, Proteus spp, Pseudomonas spp, Salmonella spp, Enterobacter spp, Serratia spp, Shigella spp.

It can also be potentially used for most species of Mycoplasma spp, as well as some gram-positive aerobes in the Staphylococcus spp. Moreover, it can be used for intrauterine infusion, septic arthritis, and regional limb perfusion.
