Amitriptyline HCl is a tricyclic antidepressant. It is commonly prescribed for behavioral conditions related to anxiety in dogs. In cats, it can be used for conditions such as anxiety, pica (eating disorder i.e. unusual things not considered food), spraying, and excessive grooming. It is also commonly used as an adjunct agent for pruritis(itching) and neuropathic pain in dogs and cats.
